What is the role?
As the Sector Manager for Traffic Signals, you will lead and oversee Traffic Signal and Illumination Design projects for a diverse range of clients, including the City of Toronto, the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), Municipalities, and Private Developers. Your primary responsibilities will involve managing and expanding the Traffic Signal and Street Lighting Sector within the Transportation Infrastructure Design Practice Area. You will collaborate with various Practice Area Leads and Sector Managers to secure a robust pipeline of projects, enhance client relationships, and develop new business opportunities. Additionally, you will mentor and guide junior engineers and designers, providing technical expertise to elevate team performance and project outcomes.

In this role, your duties and responsibilities will include:
Strategic Objectives
- Manage and lead the expansion of the Traffic Signal and Street Lighting Sector within the Transportation Infrastructure Design Practice Area, aligning with LEA's overall growth plan and objectives.
- Collaborate with the Transportation Infrastructure Design Practice Area Lead, other Practice Area Leads, and Sector Managers to secure a robust pipeline of Traffic Signal and Street Lighting sector projects with achievable growth targets.
- Enhance relationships with existing clients in LEA's markets and establish new business connections in additional geographic and service areas.
- Set strategic goals for the sector and participate in evaluating their outcomes.
- Incorporate LEA’s principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in all levels of strategic planning and operations.
Business Development and Managing of Client Relations
- Promote LEA's expertise and services to current and potential clients, leveraging existing relationships and building new ones.
- Develop and implement a plan to identify and attract new clients through market research, networking, conferences, and strategic partnerships.
- Lead the preparation of Proposals, Expressions of Interest, and other marketing materials for project pursuits.
- Negotiate with clients to resolve claims and additional fee proposals.
- Review and recommend technologies to enhance business development, such as client relationship management systems and project databases.
Project Management
- Oversee the Traffic Signal and Street Lighting sector project portfolio, managing budgets, schedules, risks, and reporting.
- Serve as a Senior Project Manager, Electrical Lead, or other relevant key individual on projects, supervising team members as needed.
- Ensure high-quality project deliverables within established timelines and budgetary constraints.
- Seal various engineering drawings and reports as required.
- Implement quality management protocols, monitor quality reviews, and perform quality audits as part of project delivery.
Staff Management, Coaching, Mentoring, and Training
- Lead and manage teams of Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and technical support staff, focusing on sector growth in line with LEA’s corporate initiatives.
- Oversee recruitment, training, and performance management activities, supported by Human Resources.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and evaluations, prioritizing career planning.
- Coach, mentor, and train staff in Project Management, Business Development, Client Interaction, Design, Modeling, Tools, Software, and client experience development.
The qualifications you need:
Education and Licensure
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario
Experience
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical engineering, specifically in traffic signal and illumination design projects
- Experience working with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), must be RAQs Certified for both Major and Minor Electrical work
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in design tools such as AGi32 and Autolux
- In-depth knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and best practices related to traffic signals and street lighting
Project Management
- Strong project management skills, with a proven track record of successfully leading and delivering complex projects on time and within budget
- Experience in risk management, quality control, and financial oversight of projects
Business Development
- Experience in business development, including identifying new opportunities, client relationship management, and preparing proposals
- Ability to negotiate with clients and resolve project-related claims and additional fee proposals
Strategic Thinking, Leadership, and Communication
- Ability to set and evaluate strategic goals for the sector and adapt to evolving market conditions
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary teams, including recruitment, training, and performance management
- Experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing junior engineers and technical staff
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with clients, sub-consultants, and internal teams
- Commitment to incorporating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles into all aspects of strategic planning and operations
