The Toronto Society of Architects (TSA) held a tour of the new Finch West Station at the end of July as part of their ongoing series of summer building tours. The station is one of six new subway stops on the $2.6 billion extension of the Spadina subway line from Toronto into the City of Vaughan. One of the key design principles of Finch West was to integrate architecture, engineering, and art. LEA Consulting, along with IBI Group and WSP (TSA Joint Venture), collaborated with architect Will Alsop and artist Bruce McLean to tackle the challenge of creating a design for the station that acted as a catalyst to a new, exciting public realm.
On the tour, representatives from IBI Group and the TTC were joined by LEA’s very own Peter Ojala and Mohammad Majdabadi as they guided attendees around the stunning new station to discuss how architecture, engineering, and art came together on this unique project.

Sculpted columns found throughout the station provide a synergy of form and function, and the tour attendees learned how TSGA worked closely with the artists to ensure that the result was both practical and visually appealing.
