LEA Participates in the 2018 Canstruction Toronto Competition

For a great cause, LEA’s Markham and Downtown offices came together for our first Canstruction competition on May 14, 2018.

Canstruction is a non-profit competition that gathers teams of designers, architects and engineers for one night to build impressive structures from non-perishable food items, which are all donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank after the event.

Plans were drawn up and wood supports cut in preparation for the big night, where 1,500 items of packaged food were used by our hardworking team to create our structure, a duplicate of the infamous hat worn by one of Canada’s most beloved icons, the late Gord Downie, during The Tragically Hip’s last tour. With the tremendous leadership demonstrated by Mr. Downie, we wanted to tip our hats to him in recognition of his lifetime mission of fighting for causes greater than himself, both in his musical work and his philanthropic initiatives.

The result, after a hard night’s work, was a magnificent recreation of the iconic hat made up of 720 cans of white tuna, 660 cans of tomatoes, 100 Kool-Aid packs, and 20 bags of pasta. LEA’s structure, along with all other participating teams, was displayed to the public at the TD Centre in downtown Toronto for the following week before it was broken down and shipped to the Daily Bread Food Bank.

Canstruction is an excellent example of team bonding, and of the values LEA and its employees hold for doing good and giving back to our community. Thank you to everyone who participated in this wonderful event and making our first Canstruction a success!
