LEA Welcomes Dewan Karim, P.Eng., PTOE as Sector Lead, Multimodal Mobility and Safety

In July 2025, LEA proudly welcomed Dewan Karim as the new Sector Lead of Multimodal Mobility and Safety.

Dewan brings over 26 years of distinguished experience in the public and private sectors across Japan and Canada, having pioneered transformative solutions in transportation engineering and planning. His groundbreaking contributions include multimodal transit station planning and design, multimodal eco-mobility hub, reclaiming unused traffic spaces using ‘invisible space’ concept, mobility placemaking using ‘mobility parks’ ideas, and processes for downscaling mobility facilities have become globally recognized practice and tools for transportation professionals.

Dewan is considered as a visionary in transit and traffic safety, vision zero concept, having developed vision zero plans for several Canadian municipalities and advancing street design strategies that prioritize safety for all users. Before joining LEA, he rebuilt a multi-million-dollar transportation forensic, multimodal mobility, and traffic safety business in just seven years, emerging as a top leader in transportation forensic engineering in Canada. He holds a master’s degree in infrastructure planning from the University of Tokyo and a M. A. Sc. in transportation engineering and safety from Toronto Metropolitan University.

Dewan's expertise is widely recognized on global platforms, where he has managed and presented transportation knowledge to international German delegations, collaborated with politicians to implement innovative and creative solutions, and as a sought-after keynote speaker and professional trainer/educator. He has delivered professional courses at EPIC, CITE, and upcoming course in British Columbia professional engineering institution, and presented as keynote speaker  in conferences, exclusive think-tank groups, universities, and workshops worldwide. His accolades include special awards like "best planning system" from MIT media lab and "project of the year" from ITE in 2015. Dewan’s literary contributions include a chapter in disrupting mobility by Springer (2017) and a sole-authored two-volume book series, shifting mobility, published by Taylor & Francis in 2023/2024. This influential work reveals the discovery of a “human mobility DNA”, offering a transformative perspective on how individuals move within cities during daily life.

I am excited to bring fresh knowledge and a new flavour of innovation to advance a new form of multimodal mobility to mobility planning, solidify our presence in the road safety and Vision Zero market, build a transportation forensic engineering business across Canada, and target opportunities for new mobility and technology applications in local and international markets.
