Pulling our Weight at the 2019 Orbis Plane Pull for Sight

LEA team members pulling an airplane as part of Plane Pull event.

This month, our team of LEA fundraisers took part in one of our most unique charity events to-date. We gathered at Pearson International Airport to take part in the 2019 Orbis Plane Pull for Sight, an annual event where teams of 20 take turns pulling a 60-tonne FedEx 757 cargo jet 20 feet across a tarmac. Now you might be wondering, why pull a plane? Well the event is symbolic of the goal of Orbis, which is to use their Flying Eye Hospital to travel around the world with a team of professionals and volunteers to help inspire local eye care teams so they can save sight in various communities around the world.

With the charity goals in mind, our team warmed up and got loose in preparation for the attempt. When it was our time to shine, we managed to combine all our strength to complete the task in 28.06 seconds.

We want to thank Orbis Canada for putting on such a unique event. We hope to see everyone again next year!
