On September 13th, 2017. The City of Toronto held the annual Toronto Urban Design Awards, a celebratory event designed to acknowledge the significant contribution that architects, landscape architects, urban designers, artists, design students, and the city builders make to the look and livability of Toronto.

An image of the reconfigured Front Street in Toronto.Among the many spectacular projects at the awards this year was the Front Street Revitalization. The project area is the central section of Front Street, which includes Union Station and the Royal York Hotel. The area was redesigned to be a more all-encompassing “complete street.” As noted by the Jury in their comments, the project features “Broad sidewalk areas, flush curbs, parking lay-bys, designated crossings, pedestrian-scale lighting and street tree plantings [that] are all perfectly integrated.”

The project team, which included LEA Consulting working on the Environmental Assessment, was given an Award of Merit in the “Large Places and/or Neighbourhood Designs” category.

There were many outstanding projects and teams recognized at the event (a full list can be found at the Toronto Urban Design Awards website) and LEA is proud to be have contributed to the now award-winning Front Street Revitalization.
