The project included the design of a roundabout at the intersection of Queens Line and Merlin Road, and the rehabilitation of Queens Line, within the jurisdiction of the Lower Thames Conservation Authority. This work also involved updating the existing bridge on Queens Line to extend its useful service life and accommodate the new roundabout.
LEA provided preliminary and detailed design, permit acquisition, and construction field services for the new roundabout and bridge, including underwater inspection of the base of the abutments/footings below the water. The storm design for this assignment was critical to mitigating the anticipated impacts of climate change. Strategic construction phasing and placement of the new infrastructure were developed for this project. Maintaining local traffic and access for emergency vehicles was key to the project’s success. In most cases, one lane was maintained to allow for local access by constructing half of the road before switching over to the other half. This was accomplished with a combination of traffic control persons, and street diversions were also employed to alleviate some of the traffic during peak hours. This $7.5 million project was delivered by LEA's Civil (Windsor) team in collaboration with our Structural (Bridges), Electrical, and Transportation teams.
