Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover (Jatrabari-Gulistan Flyover)

Client: Orion Infrastructure Ltd.
Location: Bangladesh
Status: Completed

Project Description

Dhaka is one of the most congested cities of the world and traffic mobility is one of the major challenges for city dwellers, especially those who are crossing the city and want to move to Chittagong port through Jatrabari. To overcome this problem, the Government of Bangladesh decided to construct a flyover between Gulistan and Jatrabari over a highly-congested section. The project was delivered on a BOOT basis. Jatrabari is the gateway to port city, Chittagong, and deals with a heavy volume of traffic while connecting 30 districts of the country. All south bound traffic originating from adjoining areas as well as from other parts of Dhaka are connected to the flyover through 6 Up and 6 Down Ramps to facilitate uninterrupted movement. The alignment of the flyover passes through a heavily built up area of the old Dhaka City within the available Right of Way (ROW) ensuring that no land acquisition was involved.

LEA's supervision services included detailed design of the complete structure including ramps, pavement design, construction supervision of road, and structural works. Work also involved quality control and assurance, contract management, quantity certification and payments certification to EPC contractor. The structures are mainly on specially designed pile/open foundation and pre-stressed concrete superstructure. The total length of the elevated corridor is 11.8 Km of which approx. 4.1 Km is main flyover having 4-lane divided carriageway and approx. 6.1 Km is ramps having 2-lane carriageway. Dhaka City Corporation is the authority (client) for this project.
