Project Description
LEA was part of the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) team providing transportation, noise/vibration, signals, and structural consulting services for Fire Halls #4 and #8 in the Town of Oakville. LEA worked with the IPD team on the Validation Phase for Fire Hall #4 and Validation and Implementation phase for Fire Hall #8. The project included design and construction for Fire Hall #8, designed to a minimum of LEED Silver Standards. The Validation study together with Target Value Design will define the Base program, target cost and milestone schedule with a detailed breakdown of chargeable costs. The total budget for Fire Hall #8 was $9.3M. LEA provided a variety of services throughout the project delivery including Transportation, Noise and Vibration, and Structural Engineering.
Transportation services included contributions to the overall site design and building layout, particularly access to and from the apparatus bays, design of the modifications to the right-of-way of Bronte Road to permit a left-turn out of the site, and assessment of the traffic operations of Bronte Road did not affect the operations of the Fire Services.
The noise and vibration services included a review of the impacts of the building's backup generators and maintenance operations (siren testing) on the surrounding sensitive uses (schools and residential neighbourhoods). These services were provided to ensure environmental compliance, including mitigation measures related to fire engine and auxiliary generator testing, and provided indoor architectural acoustics recommendations to ensure the comfort of the Fire Halls’ workers.
Structural design services included coordinating and design of an integrated structure with cross-laminated timber (CLT)/Glulam and structural steel members, foundation design, and site review during construction.
